Nowhere Land

Nowhere Land a été réalisé en parallèle de Let’s Go to Happy Land* autour d’un thème commun : la recherche de l’utopie. Alors que Let’s Go to Happy Land aborde de manière cynique et ludique les images que les pays cherchent à projeter et les réalités qui se cachent derrière, Nowhere Land suit de manière plus poétique le parcours d’un immigrant à la recherche d’un lieu où s’installer dans un pays étranger.

Le personnage voyage d’île en île à la recherche d’un lieu idéal auquel il pourrait appartenir. Pourtant, il ne parvient jamais à trouver facilement un endroit où s’installer, et les lieux idéaux qu’il découvre disparaissent pour des raisons inattendues ou se révèlent impossibles à habiter. Finalement, après s’être perdu, il retourne sur l’île vide qu’il avait quittée au début.

Là, dans un endroit où il n’y a rien, le personnage décide de rester en se disant : « Il n’y a rien ici, mais je peux faire ce que je veux. » Plutôt que de chercher un lieu parfait, il choisit de recommencer là où il se trouve. Ce voyage fait écho à ma propre expérience de vie, d’installation et de recommencement dans un environnement étranger.

Nowhere Land was created alongside Let’s Go to Happy Land* around the shared theme of searching for utopia. While Let’s Go to Happy Land approaches the images countries project and the realities behind them in a cynical and playful way, Nowhere Land poetically follows the journey of an immigrant searching for a place to settle in an unfamiliar country.

The protagonist travels from island to island in search of an ideal place to belong. Yet a place to stay is never easily found, and even the ideal sanctuaries discovered vanish for unexpected reasons or prove impossible to inhabit. Eventually, having lost their way, the protagonist returns to the empty island first left behind.

There, in a place where nothing exists, the protagonist decides to stay, saying, “There is nothing here, but I can do whatever I want.” Rather than searching for a perfect place, they choose to start anew right where they are. This journey reflects my own experience of living, settling, and starting over in an unfamiliar environment.
